More content for Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2 : Insurgency is a free-to-use game utility developed by the TrueSpirit team. This mod features all-new missions, weapons, maps, 3D models, and more. It vastly improves on the cooperative element of the original game, Battlefield 2, through its new content additions–culminating in a campaign that tests each player's skill as well as their coherence as a military unit.
Although it doesn’t make drastic changes to the game such as in terms of premise, timeline, or technology, Battlefield 2 : Insurgency remains a must-have for any Battlefield player. Other entries in the franchise include Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield: Vietnam.
Time to revisit the Battlefield
The most divisive point for Battlefield 2 : Insurgency is its graphics. One on hand, you get a lot of new 3D models and textures that freshen up the game experience. From the new character models to unique weapons, it’s easy to confuse this mod with another entry in the franchise, which shows the effort put in by its developers. Meanwhile, its custom graphics remain glitchy, such as badly-colored plants.
One aspect in this mod that deserves universal acclaim, though, is its new stages. From the map layouts to the incredible detail, the Insurgence map pack makes the gameplay exciting and immersive. It captures a feeling that easily compares to the newer Battlefield entries, featuring vehicle wreckages and partially destroyed buildings. Through its set design, it manages to evoke the thrill and tension of being in a warzone.
In terms of animation, the AI-controlled enemies in this game are quite competitive. They offer legitimate challenges, even for experienced Battlefield players. However, there are instances where the AI opponents fall into erratic behavior such as repeating movement patterns and spamming certain kinds of weapons — like throwing a lot of grenades on your company vehicle. Other than this slight quirk, the mod works exceptionally well.
A must-have add-on
The attention put into creating new 3D models for weapons and characters should be enough reason for any fan to check out Battlefield 2 : Insurgency. It is not without its flaws, though, since there have been reports of badly-translating static assets and AI opponents adopting weird behavior. Still, all these inconveniences appear minor in the face of its well-crafted maps.
